🧠A Call for Smarter AI Governance

Opinion piece inspired by the UN’s July 2025 report on AI-driven deepfakes

Let’s be real: the internet is no longer just a place for cat videos and memes. It’s a battleground for truth. And with the rise of **AI-generated deepfakes**, the line between real and fake is getting dangerously blurry.

Sa panahon ngayon, hindi sapat ang “mukhang totoo.” Dahil sa generative AI, kahit ang boses, mukha, at kilos ng tao ay puwedeng gayahin—at gamitin sa panlilinlang.

📣 What the UN Is Saying

According to the UN’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU), companies must adopt advanced tools to detect and prevent deepfake content. The report, released at the AI for Good Summit in Geneva, warns of risks to elections, financial systems, and public trust.

“Trust in social media has dropped significantly because people don’t know what’s true and what’s fake.” — Bilel Jamoussi, ITU

🔍 Why This Matters

Deepfakes aren’t just harmless pranks. They’ve been used to impersonate politicians, CEOs, and even loved ones. Isang pekeng video lang ang kailangan para magdulot ng kaguluhan, panlilinlang, o scam.

Adobe’s Leonard Rosenthol emphasized the need for digital provenance—knowing where content came from and who made it. Meanwhile, experts like Dr. Farzaneh Badiei warned that without global standards, patchwork solutions won’t be enough.

💬 My Take: We Need More Than Tech

Technology alone won’t save us. We need **education, regulation, and accountability**. Social media platforms should be required to label AI-generated content. Schools should teach digital literacy. And governments must collaborate to set global standards.

Hindi lang ito laban ng mga tech companies—laban ito ng bawat netizen. Kung hindi tayo kikilos, baka sa susunod, hindi mo na alam kung totoo ang nakikita mo online.

🛡️ What We Can Do

  • Support platforms that verify content authenticity
  • Report suspicious videos and audio clips
  • Educate others about deepfake risks
  • Push for legislation on AI transparency

Ang kaalaman ay proteksyon. The more we understand how deepfakes work, the better we can defend ourselves and our communities.
